Carpal Tunnel Syndrome... Myths, Realities, Preventative and Corrective Physical Therapy Exercises consists of a 2 1/2 hour, 2 CD self-help audio program. In addition to the CD's, we provide you with an associated 11 x 17 poster which makes following the the exercises heard on the audio VERY easy and a 32 page book entitled Cumulative Trauma Injuries... A Guide to Self-Help Injury Prevention. The following is a detailed synopsis of both the audio and book:

Chapter 1: The Warning Signs of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a cumulative condition. That is to say that it develops very slowly over an extended period of time and is almost evolutionary in it's progression. You might even say that it "sneaks up" on you. In this chapter we discuss what you should be aware of to better enable you to head off Carpal Tunnel Syndrome as early as possible!

Chapter 2: Myths About Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

As the number of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome cases have increased, so have the myths surrounding it. If you are operating under these erroneous assumptions, you stand a very good chance of ignoring the very REAL warning signs and increasing the chance that your Carpal Tunnel condition could progress to the point of needing corrective surgery or, worse, become uncorrectable altogether. In this chapter we discuss such myths and contrast them with reality.

Chapter 3: The Metabolic Rate, Age and the Role They Play

Anybody who has been conscious about their weight probably has heard that raising the metabolic rate is one of the keys to weight control. However, when it comes to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which is essentially a condition caused by the breakdown of tissue in the body, metabolic rate and age are key factors of consideration in tissue regeneration! Here we discuss these factors and specific steps that you can can and should be taking to help regenerate the tissue damaged by Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Chapter 4: Posture and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Incorrect posture is often a key contributing element to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. In this chapter we answer such questions as "is there a perfect way to sit"? We offer a number of tips on how you can make posture adjustments at work and at home. We also discuss "The Fanny Factor" which, believe it or not, is a contributing factor to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Chapter 5: The Importance of Proper Nutritional Habits

As we stated earlier, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a breakdown of body tissue. Therefore, not only is it important to make changes in posture and environment, but it is at least as important that we take action to RE-GENERATE new body tissue to replace the old. Wouldn't you say that gives the expression "you are what you eat" a whole new meaning? We discuss this in detail, setting you on the right path to recovery!

Chapter 6: The Work Environment and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Here we discuss a number of factors related to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in the workplace. We talk about the various environments where Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is most frequently found. We define the term "Ergonomics" and apply it to YOUR work environment. We ask and answer questions such as "is there a perfect workstation?" We offer a number of practical suggestions that you can start to use TODAY to help reduce, reverse and avoid the pain of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Chapter 7: Sports and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Sports can be something of a double edged sword. It can be both a contributor to and an aid in relief from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. In this chapter we approach the topic from both points of view. We discuss Carpal Tunnel Syndrome acquired through sporting activities as well as the use of sports to help relieve Carpal Tunnel symptoms.

Chapter 8: Nighttime Ergonomics

If you are like most typical human beings, you will be in essentially one position from 6 to 8 hours every night, 7 days a week, 365 days a year while sleeping. That means that you will be in whatever position you sleep in for the vast majority of your life. Here we discuss the impact of your sleeping habits as it relates to the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome condition and offer you a number of practical suggestions that you can start using TODAY to improve your posture while sleeping. We also discuss a number of aids that can help!

Chapter 9: Pregnancy and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Sometimes Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is brought on for one very simple reason. You are pregnant! Here we discuss the reasons this condition is brought on by pregnancy. In addition, there are some special considerations when treating a woman for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome while pregnant to ensure that you care for both yourself and your unborn child. We discuss these factors and the steps you can take to find relief!

Chapter 10: Stress... It's Impact and What You Can Do About it

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is first and foremost a physical condition. However, a MAJOR contributing factor to this physical condition has psychological roots. That factor is STRESS! We discuss in detail the impact that stress has on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and show you a number of things that you can start doing TODAY to reduce that impact!

Chapter 11: Braces, Splints and Other Aids

There is one myth that applies to this topic. That myth suggests that all you have to do is wear a brace or similar implement and the problem will go away. That is not to say that braces, splints and other aids do not have their place. They most certainly do. However, some work better than others. In addition, even if you are using the proper aid for your particular condition, it is important that you do NOT use that aid to the exclusion of the other actions you should be taking to correct your condition. The approach to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome should be comprehensive. We discuss this in detail and show you a number of aids that we have found to be effective!

The Exercises

In the remaining chapters we take you through a series of physical therapy exercises that you can do in your car, in the shower, on the phone, at work or just about anywhere. At this point you, the listener, should refer to the book that comes with the audio program and follow the diagram for each of the exercises as Roger instructs the program host, Warren Arthur (a professional radio broadcaster), on how to perform these exercises. Roger is the instructor and Warren, like you, is the layman. The interaction between the two paints an audio picture of how to perform these exercises properly. In addition, we believe you will find it entertaining as well. The delivery is anything BUT boring!

Chapter 12: Exercises You Can Do in Your Car

When it comes to exercise, probably the number one reason (or excuse) that most people offer up is that they just don't have the time. However, most people spend a great deal of time in their car. So, in this chapter, we take that "reason" away and go through a series of specific exercises that you can do in your car. Roger is the instructor and Warren is the "guinea pig".

Chapter 13: Exercises You Can Do in the Shower

There is, of course, a chance that you don't drive or even ride in a car. However, even the busiest person has been known to take a shower... at least occasionally, correct? Here we go through a series of exercises you can perform in the shower. Once again, Roger is the instructor while Warren performs and describes what he is doing while he is doing it.

Chapter 14: Exercises You Can Do at Work

Here we conduct you through a series of exercises that you can do while actually performing your work or during brief breaks. You may be surprised at just how effective such exercises can be, even for just a few seconds here and a few seconds there! Roger instructs while Warren describes.

Chapter 15: Exercises Recommended for Home Only

In this chapter we take you through a series of exercises which, while extremely beneficial, you may find impractical to do in a work environment. These exercises are best performed at home or, if you prefer, in a gym or health club environment. Once again, follow along with the diagrams in the book as Roger instructs Warren in how to perform them while Warren describes them to you in detail!
